We own a hardcover of this one. The illustrations of Karri Nelson are gorgeous as per usual. The prayerful atmosphere of the entire story is quiet and reflective, plenty to prompt discussion. Details are different in this fictional imaginative tale of possibility of her story from other tales, but worthy of the legend of inspiration. I read this mainly to Rascal (7.5) with everyone else listening in.
Moses is the story of Harriet Tubman's spiritual journey. Led by the voice of God, Tubman escapes slavery. Later, the voice of God sends Tubman back to the south to lead nineteen groups, as many as three hundred people, out of slavery.
Brilliant illustrations. Brilliant text. Moses is deeply deserving of the Caldecott Honor it was awarded.
