Almost 4 stars.
The casual -phobias and -isms are still there, but it was so much better than the previous one.
Having the occasional scenes from the victim's perspective was a good choice, it definetely elevated the whole thing for me.
I have one gripe, though... Where's the cleverness on Davenport's part? Where's the anger? He used to be known for his mind, his web of contacts and his ruthlessness, but he's not not really using any of these feats anymore...
This was a great story and different from the other stories in that it was about a woman and her two daughters that were kidnapped. I liked the change of pace instead of just another psychopath on the lose killing people. They were racing to figure out who did it and why so they could find them before they were killed. I didn't want to put the book down even when I could barely keep my eyes open.
This was probably one of the darker Lucas Davenport books. I had a hard time getting through the first half of the book, but the ending made up for it.
