A good, old-fashioned adventure, set in the 1920s or 1930s, starring a clever gorilla called Sally Jones. She can't speak, but she understands humans, can read and write and is a skilled labourer.
Her friend, captain Koskela, is imprisoned for murdering a man. She knows it was an accident, there were witnesses too, but everybody claims it was a murder. There's something fishy about the case, not the least the fact it happened right after Koskela and Sally Jones were involved in a botched case of arms smuggling.
Fortunately Sally Jones eventually gets a lead that might prove Koskela innocent, and she pursues it all the way to India. Quite an adventure it is. The book moves fairly slowly, but despite the large number of pages, it reads pretty fast and the story is interesting.
