I picked this up at random without knowing much about it and ended up loving this story so much. The romance is funny and sweet and a bit over the top at times. The characters are flawed and lovable. The fact that they fell in love both in person and over margin notes made for book edits was a unique style that I was very into.“What would somebody think about a person like me? Who, out there the world, would think I was special enough to make the heroine in their story?”“...and anyway, romance isn't just about attraction. It's about companionship. You don't see old married couples who've been through two world wars and five babies together making out on a bench when they're ninety and think to yourself, now that's what it's all about. You see the way they hold hands, the way they serve each other scrambled eggs on plates they got for their wedding day, the way they shuffle through the paper in the mornings together without needing to fill the space with empty conversation. Because they are happy. Just happy. Together.”
Will Pennington is so !!!!
Savannah's family dynamic is TERRIBLE, though, and I had to do deep breathing exercises at one point because the way they treat her made me so
mad. IMO it isn't ever satisfactorily addressed.
But Will... chef's kiss. SOLID leading man.
Predictable, but still a really sweet and cosy read. Just what I needed!
Good read for a weekend, although slightly predictable/forgettable, maybe because more energy is focused on the obnoxious family of the main character than on the romantic couple.
Cute storyline, but I wish there was more development to the story after they met. The last chapter felt rushed - hurry up, figure out who it was, confess feelings, and just one kiss. Another chapter or two before the end would have been great to feel more of their love. The epilogue helped, but still left me wanting more. I would recommend it as a cute, easy read.
I was excited about the premise of this book, it sounded really good, I love a good bookish romance.
I got like 13 pages in. I didn't expect a book to be so hard to read within the first twenty pages. I tried to push through but I just couldn't do it. The language just didn't flow well for me and it moves so slow, and that was just in the first couple of pages. Boring to be honest.
Savannah tries to live by her family's focus on greatness and service, but too often she feels that she is a duck out of water amid the achievements of the rest of the Cade clan. Savannah works for a publishing company committed to only the most literary of the most literary, but in her spare time she is writing a romance novel. When she struggles with her novel, she gets unexpected help from a mysterious editor who has also found refuge in Savannah's favorite hideaway, a hidden turret room of the Victorian office. But who is this mysterious editor? And why does Savannah feel so drawn to him?
I easily figured out all the unknown elements in this story, and I knew where the story was going, but my enthusiasm for the characters and the plot and the humor and, of course, the bookish setting, never faltered. Deep meaning? Important message? Poetic writing? No, but if you enjoy the gentlest of rom-coms, you will like this little book.
A fun, humorous little story. I picked it up several times and had trouble adjusting to the present tense POV, but once I had time to sit down and concentrate on what the MC was telling me, it wasn't so bad.
It's really a fun little story with a likeable heroine. She's always getting herself snagged up on things (sometimes literally), her boss is incredibly demanding, and her sister is horrid to her. It looks like her life is coming to a cliff and there's going to be a massive crash before the end of the book.
Just when she's feeling worst, some kind soul starts helping her edit her novel by secretly sneaking into her attic retreat at work where she left the pages spread out. This kind person just might help her hold her life together long enough to get to the next thing...but who are they?
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.
The idea is great, but didn't like the executions.
There are a few highlight in this book, but overall is mediocre.
Is not that bad, but there are tons of better romances out there
What an absolutely adorable read! Savannah and William's life is full of complications, expectations, and reality checks. Savannah wants nothing more than to become an accomplished romance author, she wants her story out there for the masses. She wants to show women everywhere they are treasured for who they are faults and all. William on the other hand is trying to save his mother's business. As a former editor to a posh New York company, he's returned home to help breathe life back into Pennington Publishing. Trying to right the wrongs, keep the business and its employees together. This isn't stressful enough for these two, enter Fergus - Savannah's ex and future brother-in-law, a mystery editor, a budding friendship, and that god-awful thing known as misunderstandings and you have yourself a truly enchanting story. I loved this meet-cute, from the very beginning. From the moment William meets Savannah, I am rooting for them, and as their budding relationship grows into something, you are blessed with their growth, as individuals, and as a pair. Really loved it, and know you will too.
Thank you @NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read the advanced copy!

Meet Me In the Margins is about Savannah who is an editor at a publishing house that prides itself in its highbrow titles. But Savannah likes to write romances! One day she leaves her manuscript behind a room she thought only she knew about, but comes back to a bunch of notes. She soon comes to rely on those notes to improve her writing.
Steam level: 1/3 (only kissing)
I really enjoyed reading the book, it was a fast and easy read. I thought it was very sweet. I liked the main couple, thought that their romance was cute.
Very much a You've Got Mail style story. It's quite predictable, but I personally don't think that's a bad thing. Similar to the movie, this is a very slow burn, and the focus is more on the book world than the actual romance. The two characters don't interact that much throughout.
A bookish setting definitely helped me enjoy the book even more as a book lover. It was fun to see behind the scenes a bit about what happens at a publishing house. Especially the ARC room! I enjoyed reading Savannah's journey to getting her book published as well as the authors who are signed to their publishing house.
While I wish we found out more about him, I did like the stoic love interest, Will. From the get go he seems fascinated with her. It was fun to see him be interested while Savannah still seemed pretty clueless. I also really liked the designer at her work, and her best friend Layla. She actually seemed like the most interesting character in the book. I loved how proud she was of her work, and how she was always ready to defend it.
I did miss some depth from the book. Nothing major, but if we could have seen more chemistry, or interactions between the two love interests, or if the best friend was more involved in the mystery of who was leaving notes on the manuscript, or even some more information on the love interest. Just something a little bit more.
Also, the depths of Savannah's family's disregard for her emotions and her general wellbeing is astonishing for a family who's supposedly always there for each other, and for Savannah who's always ready to do anything for her family. I just really did not like them at all.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange of my honest opinions.
Savannah is an editor for a literary publisher and (secretly, of course... if her publishing house found out she was writing frivolous fiction.... the scandal..... ) is facing a submission deadline for her romance novel manuscript . She is walking out of the conference room at work and falls, dropping her manuscript at the feet of her new supervisor. She might have just blown her cover, so she hustles to hide her precious manuscript in a secret hideout. When she returns, a mystery person has added some not-so-welcome editing advice. When her manuscript is rejected by the editor for deep revisions (with a 44-day due date for resubmission), Savannah starts to listen to those marginal notes.
For those of us that fall in love with and through books, this rom-com is such a welcomed escape. What I loved most about this book is that it is more about the growth of Savannah than about the romance itself. She faces some pretty difficult learning curves for herself - learning to put herself first, grow as an individual, and explore what it means to be a good friend, coworker, partner. It is about the harsh realities of chasing your dreams and your dream person and what it means to be attracted to someone.
I heartily recommend this book to anyone that has a bookish bend and is looking for a good rom-com to keep them company. :D
Note: I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
3.5 ⭐️ I'm such a sucker for books about books and this one did not disappoint. Meet Me in the Margins is about an assistant editor named Savannah that is secretly working on a romance manuscript. She tried selling it to another publishing company but was shot down when she was told that it needed work but if she could get it done quickly, they will consider it again. She has 45 days to rewrite her entire manuscript when she notices someone has written feedback in the margins and decides to try and get them to help her edit her book before the deadline. They secretly write back and forth to each other through her manuscript but who is this mystery man that Savannah is sort of liking?
Will is the new VP of editing at her publishing house. Savannah has been spending more time with him and starting to enjoy his company. All while trying to rewrite her manuscript, figure out who the mystery editor is and be there for her sisters engagement.
I did quite enjoy this book but it was missing the spark between the main love interests. I really liked Will. I think he had a good personality and he was snarky. He and Savannah just didn't spend that much time together and I feel like we missed out on more of a love buildup.. Maybe the book was just a bit too short but I would have loved more. It felt like a Kdrama where there's just build up the entire season then they just kiss the last two minutes of the final episode.
If you're looking for a cute find yourself romance novel about an author, then this one is for you. This book was given as an ARC by NetGalley for an honest review.
