if you're looking for a blend of shadowhunters and the bridgerton era, this book is perfect for you. the journey through the story was enjoyable, but i found the pacing to be quite slow. the atmosphere, characters, and historical details were great, yet the story felt like it dragged on for too long, making it feel like it took an eternity to finish. the main characters, especially lord carlston, stood out. he's the dark, brooding figure that many readers love in their books. however, there were too many side characters overall, which often left me confused about who was who. despite the slow pace, the plot was intriguing. demon hunters in the 1800s? absolutely! however, the complexity of the world was often confusing and didn't necessarily add up. i did have a really fun time with this story despite the couple of problems i had.

I went in not knowing much about this, and that was the best. The Regency setting is a great choice, and the sense that something is amiss but it is not clear what made this really addictive. 

Really loved this book, but feel like the plot doesn't advance enough. Otherwise, it's a delight.

Not quite as good as I remember it being 2 years ago, but still a delight! I think Darby, as a character, needs more personality than being loyal.

There's a great deal of unnecessary contemplating in this book. Really impedes the narrative after a while.

I am so here for this Jane Austen style urban fantasy series! It was incredibly well done in the Regency style and the fantasy aspects were a blast. The characters were flawless and she did such a good job with the tension between the expectations of society at that time and the necessities of the paranormal experiences around them. Love love love
