4.5 stars
Last month I read Extinction of All Children which is the first book in this trilogy. I picked up book 2 this month and ended up enjoying it slightly more. This book picks up right where book one ends. Emma and Eric are now in Territory M which is where all the middle class people are. There are still similarities to The Hunger Games but it's different. I don't feel like I am reading the same story. The one thing that bugged me a lot was the fact that Emma kept comparing the two territories. Like I get it they had way more than Territory L does. I don't need you to explain to me how the water faucets are different in each territory. It would have been fine if she only did this a couple times but nope she did it all throughout the book which got really annoying really fast. Actually there was one other thing, the fact that Emma and her brother and sister refer to their parents as Mother and Father. This happened more so in the first book but it did happen in this book as well. I just find it a little weird. This book was a lot more gruesome. There are several deaths including kids plus some gory scenes. The first half of the book was a little slow and mostly consisted of them hiding out and Emma comparing everything to her territory. Once I got to the halfway point things started picking up and I can't wait to read the next book in April.
