Be forewarned - this book has a cliffhanger ending.

However, it is so worth the read. I find Nora's creativity really shines in books about everyday folks encountering things beyond the realm of possibility. I cannot wait to see where this trilogy takes me.

It will come as no surprise to anyone that I did no research before starting this. I didn't know it was an incomplete trilogy! This took a long time to set up the story, very similar to The Guardians Trilogy, but I'm invested in the lost brides!

Inheritance is your typical Roberts book and that's a good thing. It's a guaranteed treasure hunt to look for answers with some deep love thrown in. Roberts is that stamp on the box for a good book.

I just finished Inheritance, the lost bride trilogy #1 by Nora Roberts and here is my review.

Sonya MacTavish is getting married but she blows off a meeting to go home early, she walks in to find her fiance and her cousin going at it in her bed. After leaving the graphic design firm that her ex still works at, she decides to set out on her own. A knock at the door changes Sonya's whole world. Her father had a twin brother and he left her the ancestral home in his will. A beautiful Victorian House on the Maine coast. To fulfill the will she has to live there for 3 years.

Seems too good to be true and one way it is. The place is haunted with brides who all died there and something sinister is still lurking there. As Sonya starts to learn all the dark history of the house, the brides are calling for her help. They want their rings back. With the help of Lawyer Trey and her best friend, she starts to unravel the harrowing history of the house and the curse that took the lives of many women before her.

This book hooked me from page one and didn't let go. I fell in love with the manor and the ghosts just like Sonya did. I am now fully invested in Sonya finding those rings and hoping the curse gets broken.

I thought the descriptive narratives of the house were perfect and I felt like I was really there. I wanted to learn more about the rooms and all her ancestors. I couldn't imagine finding out I had a whole other family and the dark past that comes with it. I would be scared out of my wits and don't even get me started on the cuteness overload of her new dog.

I liked the character development and how well all the characters fit together. It was a perfect cohesion of story building, plot and character building.

I knew the book would end with a bit of a cliffhanger being that it is book one of a trilogy but I need more. I am positively alight with the need to see what happens next.

Nora Roberts' latest trilogy is a good old fashioned ghost story. Whenever the spirits living in FMC Sonya's new home make their presence known - some benevolently, some maliciously - the novel sparkles. But the other subplots are dullsville. Okay, Sonya does catch her fiancé screwing one of her bridesmaids only weeks before the wedding, but she recovers quickly and the rest of her life is perfect. She has a loyal BFF, a supportive mom, and surprise! an uncle she never knew dies and bequeaths her a huge mansion in coastal Maine. Everyone she meets in her new hometown is friendly and welcoming, including the MMC, who represents the third generation of attorneys who worked with her uncle. Their romance proceeds gently and uneventfully; of course the guy is handsome, supportive, brave and thoughtful. Way too much time is spent describing Sonya's graphic design work, BFF Cleo's artwork, her new home's architecture and its interior design. As an example, here's the scintillating conversation the first time the MMC's buddy tours the house. Cherrywood, pristine. The wood's a little thirsty. This and the mermaid [statue] need a good buff with paste wax. Don't be using any supermarket spray shit on these pieces. Any of them. You can do the lemon oil, orange oil between, but once, maybe twice a year, you buff with a good paste wax.Compare that to Roberts' [b:Year One 34311452 Year One (Chronicles of The One, #1) Nora Roberts https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1488360073l/34311452.SY75.jpg 55367060], where a mysterious plague starts killing off millions of people in the first chapter...I know, not all books need to have the same tempo, but I shouldn't want to skim multiple paragraphs to get to the good stuff. The final chapters and abrupt cliffhanger ending do ramp up the paranormal eeriness. Maybe the slow start was necessary to set the scene for action-packed books 2 and 3. Hopefully, Roberts can sprinkle her magic storytelling dust and rescue this series from its sluggish beginning. Uncorrected Digital Galley received from Net Galley in exchange for honest review.
