"Mia Alvar's ... debut gives us a vivid ... picture of the Filipino diaspora: exiles and emigrants and wanderers uprooting their families to begin new lives in the Middle East and America--and, sometimes, turning back"--

Alvar writes short stories that feel like novels. I came away from the book with insight about the lives of Filipino expats, the experience of living under journalistic persecution, and much more.
Beautifully written, brought me home. One of the best I've read this year.
