I was excited to re-enter the world of Thistle Grove (Payback's a Witch is still my absolute favourite of the series thus far) – and was excited to get into Delilah's head. The story itself (especially the ending) felt a bit rushed. You could guess the big reveal very early on into the story. The romance itself felt a bit forced. There were a lot of not so wise decisions, and insta-sapphic coupling (I suppose that's what we do), leaving me with a bunch of questions. If the romance was left out completely, I would have given it another star. I did love seeing Delilah opening up and her family coming together. Honestly, her conversations with her uncle and cuz are what kept me reading. If you've read the other books in the series, you should read this too. Not my favourite, though I know I will keep returning to Thistle Grove as long as the opportunity presents itself.
I liked parts of this, but I really didn't like Delilah/Delilah+Cat together. I liked Delilah's character more in the other books, and there were definitely some things that I liked about it in this one, but she just seemed a little angsty.
I enjoy the Thistle Grove series and premise. Not a fan of Deliah, who the book is about. So powered through it.
3/5
I'm disappointed in this book. I was so hopeful for Delilah and all of the Harlows getting together and learning more about them - and learned I did, in ONE SCENE. ONE. SCENE. OF TWO that Delilah shared ith any other Harlow. COME ON! I missed Emmy and wanted Delilah to have some scenes with James too, who for all intents and purposes was mostly absent in the first book too. And we only got 2 whole scenes of Delilah with her family in the entire book? Come on.
Cat annoyed me. I knew there was something fishy about her and I think that Lilah forgave her way too soon. So she stole the book and betrayed Lilah but was forgiven because she didn't tell her mother about the town? Come on.
I liked Lilah but I was disappointed in this book and the romance. It all happened way too fast for me personally. What I did like, however, is how hard Nina tried to atone for her mistakes. Loved that.
I'm also very intrigued about Ivy and Dasha's romance and can't wait to read about it. I do have a question though: are we EVER going to get a second chance romance for Gareth and Linden? Please? I mean what is it gonna take for them to find their happily ever after?
I just finished In Charms Way by Lana Harper and here are my thoughts!
Delilah is still living with some pretty serious memory issues 6 months after she was hit with a power surge so strong it destroyed her memory. No matter what her friends and family try, the aftermath is still too much for Delilah to handle. Taking matters into her own hands, she takes a book that is hidden away to perform a dangerous spell at a nexus to help restore her mind.
While the spell seems to have done its job, it did something just as unexpected. Every creature with dangerous intent, seems to have honed in on Delilah and when a succubus comes to feed on a very willing Deliliah, its an out of towner that saves her.
Cat, a monster hunter with a morally gray persona, sweeps into Deliliahs life and won't take no for an answer. She wants to help Deliliah figure out what happened but they cannot deny the growing attraction between them and it is putting them both in danger.
I'm already biased. I love this series. LOVE...IT!!!! Which means my standards and expectations are sky high too. It was worth the wait. Thistle grove is one of my favorite fictional places and the supernatural beings who live there.... Feels like family.
I felt so bad for Delilah. I couldn't imagine living with memory issues so bad and to top things off, the witch that cast the spell is paying penance by working in the store with her. I would have been so much worse than Deliliah was to Nina if I had to work with the person who ruined my life. I also now need a pet raven. I love the idea of magic and books filled with spells and knowledge. I already collect books on witchcraft and the occult and this book just elevated my love more.
The family secret that pops out at the end.... I won't spoil it but I am desperate for the next installment. I love all the descriptive narrative and the beautiful prose that follows effortlessly through the entire book.
It does get pretty spicy, so if that isn't your thing or you don't enjoy LGBTQ rep then you are totally missing out.
5 stars!! Thank you @netgalley and @berkleypub for my gifted copy! Out now.
