Presents advice for a variety of situations, including what to do if the sky falls, the bus doesn't come, the sun never shines again, and there is no happy ending.

I received this book from the author for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.
Promises has a unique twist on historical fiction and the way it is written makes the reader feel like they are sitting at the feet of a grandparent in front of a fire, listening to different stories about their childhood.
The story flows smoothly and the characters keep the book light and the reader laughing. Because the book takes place in the late 1800s on a farm, the dialogue exchanged is written like they would've talked (i.e. “Whar ya ben all day?” ) and may annoy many readers, however it definitely captures the mood of the book and completes the story.
The content can become a little crass when talking about the boys childhood, telling of different activities they did to occupy their time. And the talking between the two best friends can also become a bit crude as they grow older.
Overall, Promises was a decently enjoyable read and I give it 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to readers who enjoy historical fiction.
