At first, I wanted to give it a 2 star rating because I flew through it. But, the more I think about what I read, the more infuriated I get.
First of all, I can't make peace with Nora's ridiculous and disturbing reactions. She is terrified by Patch, yet she is so passive to the danger he poses. She does make a few weak attempts to convince her teacher to let her switch partners, but that's it. She's like
Nora: I don't want Patch to be my partner because he makes me feel uncomfortable.Teacher: No can do.Nora: But...Teacher: Hush, hush, now. By the way, you also have to tutor him.Nora: Okay.
Slap across the face
I personally thought it was an enjoyable book. The similarities between this and Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is crazy. But overall it is an easy read, I really liked the ending.
Becca Fitzpatrick's first novel of the series went above and beyond my expectations for ‘Hush, Hush'. The story unfolded at a nice pace and most certainly kept you guessing through out the book as to why Patch's past was so mysterious. There was one or two spots in the book were it lagged on for a bit, but sometimes that happens when creating a story.
I really don't want to say much about what happens in the book, because it's such a great journey you take with the Nora. But I guess I can say she learns a lot about herself and about life.
The one issue I've had when it came to this book was the comparisons it had against ‘Twilight'. It may have had the erie supernatural tone, but it is NOTHING like ‘Twilight'. Nora is a compleet 180 from Belle Swan and Patch is very bad boy next to Edward Cullen. I haven't found one identical piece of evidence as to what made it so comparable by a lot of readers. ‘Twilight' was about vampires and ‘Hush, Hush' was about Angels. Not even in the same realm of fiction.
Which brings me to this: I actual now favor ‘Hush, Hush' over the twilight saga. There was something very real and intriguing about ‘Hush, Hush' from beginning to end. I had a hard time putting the book down for the last 5-6 chapters because of the way Fitzpatrick wrote her climax and ending.
Would I recommend this book: Yes I would! Mostly to those that didn't enjoy ‘Twilight'.
Plus if it were ever made into a movie, I think the guys would enjoy that there is a lot more action in this novel than ‘Twilight'. Anyway, I can't wait to start the sequel “Crescendo” and find out what happens next to our two lead characters Nora and Patch!
This book was EXACTLY like a reincarnate of Twilight except with archangels instead of vampires and the writing was a tad better. I was very excited to read this book but was very disappointed with the outcome.
CONTAINS SPOILERS
The whole book the protagonist, Nora, who is very naive and ignorant, is trying to figure out her love/hate relationship with her new biology partner, Patch, while also trying to figure out what he is, if not human. She comes to find that he's an arch angel who is constantly struggling with the urge to kill her so he can finally become a human but the love he grows for her over powers his want to become human. She isn't even bothered by the fact that not only has he he has been constantly stalking and harassing her, but also wants to kill her because, omg he's soooo dreamy and mysterious. She also has another guy stalking and trying to kill her but not because he has some personal disliking for her, but because he has a personal hatred toward Patch. And what better way to harm Patch(because he can't feel physical pain, but he can feel emotional pain) than to hurt the person he cares most about? by the end of the book she had a handful of people trying to kill her. I was actually surprised that none of them didn't accomplish killing because she is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed.
Plan and simple? I simply adored this book! Intelligent and driven female protagonist? Check! Deep and brooding (and handsome) male character? Check! Story that makes me want to read until I finish despite the fact that I know the morning is quickly approaching? Check, check check!
Nora Grey embodies everything I love in a female main character. She is intelligent, motivated, and yes she is stubborn. Oh how I love a stubborn protagonist! I try not to compare books when I read, however sometimes there is no way around it. My mind will insist on feeding me the title of another book that is similar until I acknowledge that little voice and move on! This book reminded me of Twilight, with the exception that Nora would definitely kick Edward in the behind. Thus, why he was paired with Bella, and Nora was paired with Patch.
Ah, Patch. I'll admit it. I am a sucker for the evil boyfriend type. I know there is much buzz both negative and positive surrounding this type of character, but I truly enjoy them! Patch is deliciously evil in the best way possible. He has that dark and brooding air about him, that makes Nora interested in him but still pushes her away at the same time. Watching Nora's mental battle between attraction and disgust was really what won me over. She was constantly able to reason with herself, rather then letting herself just fall.
I think Nora should start some therapy and self-defense classes for other main characters.
Add in a roller coaster ride of a plot, and you have me hooked. Becca Fitzpatrick knows how to craft a story that will keep you reading despite the fact that your eyes are closing on their own. Yes my friends, if you fall in love with this story you will find yourself battling sleep to find out what happens to Nora and Patch! That coupled with what I mentioned above makes this a book I will definitely own and fanatically recommend.
Thanks to my wonderful friend I was able to borrow her ARC of Hush, Hush and I just finished reading this book a few minutes ago and must say that I loved it! I need the sequel now and this book does not officially release until next month, how am I going to survive the wait? The characters were thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining, the protagonist her best-friend and Patch were each hilarious in their own right and I enjoyed a certain aspect Nora and I shared and was happy to completely understand her when that aspect of her life presented a problem (would give you more details but I don't want to spoil).
What I can say though is Hush, Hush is as hilarious as it is suspenseful and dark, and Patch is as terrifying as he is addicting.
The book had me hooked from before I read it and still has me in its clutches long after I've put it down.
