Overall Rating - ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (3/5) or 6.8/10 total
Characters - 6
Interesting enough, but could have had more background and stuff
Atmosphere - 8
I could tell how the world was put together and why it was this way with little effort. It was set up in a way that you knew where everything was in relation to everything else.
Writing - 7
Pretty good writing, a little too much description for my liking at points tho.
Plot - 7
Fairly interesting but some points were too obvious with where the story was leading.
Intrigue - 7
I wanted to know how it was going to end the whole time, so intriguing enough.
Logic - 7
Fairly logical but some blips here or there.
Enjoyment - 6
It was alright but I more wanted to just get to the end rather than be stuck in the story and get every detail.
Hunters of the Lost City is a well-imagined and fun Middle Grade Fantasy. This is a tad descriptive in places but for the age range this is written for, I think it's needed. It's also a little slower paced as you are drawn into the story and characters, but I didn't see this as a deterrent.
The world building in this one is fantastic and has everything I love in a magical fantasy. I love the characters and the dynamic between Octavia and Sima. The journey they begin, and end with, is a wonderful example of how friendship is born...thru trust, loyalty and truth.
I can see this being a great one for a book discussion in a classroom setting. There isn't anything scary or gory in this story, and I think the kids would have fun with the monsters and the magic.
If you enjoy Middle Grade Fantasy, or just need a change of pace, this is a good one to pick up.
