My main complaint with House Rules is that it is too long. There were parts I wish I could have skipped because they just dragged on and didn't add much to the plot. On the other hand, the characters are all well-developed and interesting. My favorite is Oliver Bond, the young attorney who doesn't quite know what he's doing. I have also come to the realization that I simply do not like the mothers in Picoult's books. Perhaps it is because I am not a mother myself, but they always seem extremely annoying. I ended up liking Emma, the mother in House Rules a bit more by the end of the book, but it took me a while to get there. I also found myself getting so frustrated with this book because no one was asking the right questions. To me, every answer the characters gave required a follow-up, but this could also be because I've learned not to accept anything at face value in a Picoult book. All in all, an enjoyable, if lengthy read. Recommended for people who want to learn more about people with Aspergers Syndrome.
