Horseman: A Tale of Sleepy Hollow

This was such an intriguing take on the Sleepy Hollow story. I've never seen someone tackle this retelling with such an interesting angle! I loved the main character and I adored the relationship between Ben and Brom. ♥️

DNF: Chapter 3

It started off as a pretty good story. I enjoyed the suspense and the parental dynamics. After Katerina accepted Ben I thought it would get better but honestly, it went super downhill. The whole idea of him being totally obsessed with his namesakes never sat right with me. I couldn't relate to it, but the people he idolised were also never really shown and these amazing people. Barely as likeable ones. 

Then when all the dramatic stuff happens. First it all happens in 50 pages, three very similar scenes that made me feel no emotion, because the book never made me care about the characters at all. Ben only ever described them as his amazing grandparents/family, but it was never shown. So I honestly didn't give a shit. 
The whole thing is very much tell and no show. 

Then there is a TEN YEAR time skip where they sort of explain foreshadowing that I didn't read, because you skipped it, retrospectively. Honestly just a no. 

Interesting idea for a Sleepy Hollow retelling but for me there were too many loose threads & unanswered questions at the end to make the story feel satisfying.

Another creepy and colorful retelling by Henry. She is great at building characters and making you care for them before putting them through hell, lol. The story is a unique take that occurs after the original story.

Very well done indeed. And I loved the trans representation without making it a huge deal if that makes sense. She makes it clear what Ben's wishes were but doesn't make it the only thing unique or developed about Ben!
