This book was really well written and I did like the main character, but I just wasn't that into the plot.
The banter is so good in this one! Kiki and Malakai are good together. I like that they are not just trying to make their relationship work and dealing with personal issues, but also trying to make change and live up to their ideals. I did not expect this level of awesome when I started the book. At first I thought it would be an average college romance book, but it was really so much more!
read for the swoon sisters' bookclub: first quarter 2024 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9K5I...)
honestly i didn't like anything in this book besides the radio show element. the mc was absolutely unsufferable plus her and almost all the plot points in this story felt juvenile and immature like for high school, not the university. it was so meh.
I love how instantaneously witty this book starts out. It's hilarious, relevant in pop culture references. So much reminded me of the Netflix show Dear White People with the black caucus, cliques at university, podcast/radio show to discuss dating/relationships, and the various topics of conversation. I love how much culture was integrated in the story.
I loved their dynamic and the enemies to lovers trope. He's so emotionally intelligent, I wanted to see them work out so bad I was getting mad towards the end of the book lol
Loved it. Bolu's writing is so funny and charming. I've been following her on Twitter for ages and finally got around to reading her debut novel. And the ROMANCE!!! She gets it!!
Wise and media-savvy 20 year olds examining romance. Really didn't need the fake-dating trope.
