Well I didn't expect to cry but it hit me right in the feels when Nick opened up to his mum.
I love these books so much. Nick and Charlie are so wholesome and I love watching their relationship blossom. The art and the plot are perfect.
Gorgeouser and gorgeouser (as Alice never said - but she would have, had she read this). A simply perfect book, feel-good, happy, winsome - hell, I just wish this had existed when I was young. I'm sure I'd be a better person. You're doing yourself a disfavour if you don't read these books.
Heartstopper is such a special series to me and that's exactly why months later I am coming back to write a review so I can try convince as many people as I can to pick this up.
These characters and the stories that come along with them are special and important. I wish I had stories like this when I was younger and trying to find myself. Being able to watch as Charlie and Nick fall in love felt almost like a privilege. They are so special.
I absolutely recommend this.
Advantages of reading after watching the show - The songs automatically play in your head and provide background music
I love how it's not about drama within their relationship. There is no ‘will they won't they' It's just really lovely and respectful. No miscommunication, no misunstandings. Just a cute couple dealing with life. It's really refreshing.
Better than the first one and so incredibly cute!! The show is so close to the source material.
I enjoyed this volume much more than the first one, and I really started to warm to the characters. I actually wonder if Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 ought to have been one volume. I know it would have been a bit chonky, but I think splitting them has done them a disservice (although, given it's raging popularity, I guess not, so what do I know?). For me, Vol. 1 didn't compel me enough to keep reading; I only pushed onto Vol. 2 because the Netflix series looked quite good.
I think some of the messaging is a bit heavy handed and has a bit of an “in a very special episode of...“/after-school-special kind of vibe to it, but there's enough charm there to prevent it from being too cloying. And as a quote-unquote grown-up queer, it's refreshing to see a young queer romance and coming-out story that still has all that anxiety and friction and confusion, without the excessive trauma of older stories of this nature, even if I think it could have been written a bit more elegantly. I'm definitely here for the queer and trans joy.
Still not in love with the art style itself, but I do admire and value Oseman's ability to capture meaningful moments and emotions without words, which takes advantage of the medium quite nicely. I'm surprised at how many graphic novels I've read that seem to forget that they can show instead of tell, and Heartstopper is definitely not one of them. I really enjoy that.
In the volume two we keep following the development of Charlie's and Nick's relationship. Nick learns about his feelings and different types of sexuality.
I liked it and I think it's the perfect follow up to volume one.
Netflix tv show covers both volume one and two and, I must say, I found it to be a perfect adaptation of the series.
OMG OMG.... OMG!!!!
Por dioooooooosss!!!!
Demasiado hermoso.
I will keep giving this comic 5* throughout all the volumes cause it just has my heart in a tight grip.
“still charming, but a little on the nose,” said the adult man reading a book intended for young people that are actually coming of age
