Greenglass House

Great, fun book that's geared toward middle grade readers. 

This book started off so great, but too many characters all with complicated back stories slowed the whole story down for me. Gave up at 60%.

DNF at 50%. I feel bad DNF a middle age, is one of my favourites genres, besides that the cover is BEAUTIFUL and the storyline seams great... Unfortunately, it was painful to get to 50%, I even tried the audiobook (sometimes helps me), but it was SO BORING!!!

What a cute book and great way to introduce young kids to the idea of role-playing games and isolated, closed-circle mysteries. I honestly couldn't keep the characters straight though, so I don't know if a kid would be able to. The reveals were pretty fun though and the story was interesting. The pacing seemed slightly off in the second half of the book but that could just be my preference with how the story was structured.

I don't know. It didn't click for me at all.

This was really nice and cozy

The cozy vibes in this book were oh so right! Highly recommend reading during Christmas time with snow falling outside and a nice mug of hot cocoa. I fell in love with the atmosphere and the cast of characters who were frustrating, loveable, hilarious, clever, and all around delightful to read about.

And I went back to the first Kate Milford I read, to remind myself of how The Raconteur's Commonplace Book was related to it. It was fun to discover again the snippets included, impressively worked into a complete story collection - slash - novel in the RCB. I assume they were not complete stories at the time GGH was written!

The book is most enjoyable for its atmosphere and characters; the mystery element is mild. I want the Pines for my innkeepers, they are so solicitous it would be like having a second family. Milo is a lucky boy but his mixed feelings about his ancestry and birth parents are understandable. I like how he uses “role playing” to help him break free of his mental limitations.

Wow! What a ride!
It starts with an isolated in slowly filling up with people during a very snowy Christmas, which makes this book in a way a “locked room mystery”. The visitors have to either climb very steep stairs to get to the Inn, or take a cable car, and after all the guests are up, the cable car freezes and the stairs are filled with snow, so the people who are up there, are the only people up there, and cannot leave.
These people are pretty mysterious. Who are they? Why did they all come up to the Inn at this moment? We are given teasers and hints, there might be a mystery with the house. And what's with the smugglers?
The final twist of the story was unexpected to me. I really didn't see it coming, but I liked it.
I liked the solution to the mystery.
I liked the treasure.
I liked the love of RPG and reading, stories and art and family and found families...
It is a very nice story. :-)
I'm trying to get my hubby to read it ;-)

An engaging mystery with a wonderful cast of characters and a great plot twist!

I loved this book! The mystery and discovery is very well done. The details about this place really help to create a unique atmosphere. The characters are so great. The house even seems like a character. I can't say enough great things about this one.
