“Native or foreign, I want to remind you that your power is seldomly found at your destination, rather it's built during your journey.”
What initially starts out as a horrible “welcome” to America, which then leads to descent into darkness trying to find acceptance, eventually turns into a beautifully written account of how determination and commitment can change life's trajectory.
America is a land of immigrants. We are supposed to be the land of the free and welcome all with open arms. However, we all know this is not the case. Even today, with all the advances society has made, the same prejudices remain...which is devastating.
Isaa's story, from the very beginning, tugged at my heart and had me in tears. So much pain when all he wanted was to be accepted and couldn't understand why he was being treated like he was simply because he was “different”. Throughout this entire portion I was tearing up off and on.
When he eventually finds his peace, through his relationship with God, and finds his happiness in life my heart was light and soaring. Then his childhood romance with Ketty reignites and he finds his path in the financial world. I was cheering and yes...once again...crying. This time though, happy tears.
It's important to read accounts like this. To read (or listen) and try to understand. Only in this way can we heal and really be a nation of freedom. This is definitely one I recommend. The story, the writing...everything about this one .. is absolutely amazing.
