The characters' emotions are authentic. I like this book because of the true friendship between a woman and a man, where is no romantic love between them

This book is not good. I only finished it because it was recommended and lent to me by my friend's mom and I wanted to give it back to her.

For me, just your run of the mill historical fiction. Not really the kind of book I read or buy, but I got a copy I got in a box of books I bought. I had it for sale on line, and someone bought it this morning, and is picking it up tomorrow, so I figured I would have a look at it, and ended up reading it.
Quick read, pretty light going, but I enjoyed the basic descriptions of Dutch life 1664-1676.

Great example of well-written historical fiction. Characters and story engaging from the beginning and finished the book with a driving desire to know more about Vermeer and his art.

I loved this book.
A simple story, yet very rich.
The characters seemed real.
