This is the third or fourth book by Karen Slaughter that I have read and I have to say that I really enjoy her writing. That being said, it's very difficult to enjoy what she writes at times because of the extreme violence against women. It can be very difficult to listen to these graphic details of horrid sexual and physical violence that happens to her characters in what has been a theme in every book of hers that I have read and I know I could just not read them but like I said, I do enjoy her writing. For me, this book is easily a four-star book. However, I only gave it three stars because of one aspect in this story that really really irritated me and that was the character Emily. Everything about her, how she's treated, how she reacts and responds (or doesn't) to her circumstances, everything about her was immensely frustrating and as you get deeper into her backstory it only gets worse. I found myself wanting to skip through the book when she was the focus in the story and was glad to reach the conclusion of this book. Anyways, I will still probably continue to torture myself as I journey further into Ms. Slaughter's biography, I just wanted to get that off my chest.
I purchased this as soon as it was released but I actually got really ill and was in the hospital for months and never got around to reading it, and then I think I forgot that I hadn't read it yet. Who knows what was going on back then? The whole world was a crazy place at that time. Anyway, I finally read it and could kick myself for not reading it sooner! It was so good! The mystery was a page-turner and I literally couldn't put it down. I read it straight through and I gave it 5 stars, but one of those stars is for nostalgia alone. Lol I swear, Karin Slaughter mentions so many of the pop culture things in her books that were right up my alley when I was growing up and living in Henry & Clayton County Georgia myself. It's so fun! Like many other readers, I want to read more with Andrea and her partner Catfish, too! This was a great book. Would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy reading thrillers.
The first book didn't make a big impression on me. I remember being disappointed because I've enjoyed all of Karin Slaughter's books, but not much else. This sequel was much better! Maybe because Andrea is actually living and making decisions about her life instead of reacting to things that were happening to her? I don't know, but this was full of interesting moments and little plot twists that made it pretty entertaining.
I wasn't fully involved in this, it passed the time but never gripped me. I did like the way Slaughter blended three seemingly disparate strands of plot into one story. Her writing is also good enough but I don't think she's really for me.
Karin Slaughter is very, very good at writing two timelines at the same time. I hadn't read Pieces of Her before this, but I immediately went and got the audiobook when I finished this one.
Both were absolutely captivating. I was on the edge of my seat trying to understand what was happening now and how the past informed it.
Pieces of Her was good, but Girl, Forgotten was outstanding. I just could not stop listening to this, I was so completely engrossed in the tragic story of Emily Vaughan and ‘The Clique' as well as the secondary mysteries tied in, which is always a strong point for Slaughter.
The audio was amazing as always with Kathleen Early narrating, as another reviewer stated, she just gets Slaughter's writing so is the perfect narrator for her books.
Another excellent book by Karin Slaughter!
One of the reasons I love Karin Slaughter is because she never disappoints as an author!
Her books get you hooked right from the start and Girl, Forgotten was no different!
As always the story was really well written with some great characterizations. The way some of them were written made it so easy to dislike them!
Reading Emily's story made me feel so sad for her, especially when she wasn't even at fault. Without giving away anything, what was done to her was terrible and no, I'm not talking about her being murdered, although that in itself was terrible.
Andrea Oliver, was an interesting character and I liked her. Wouldn't mind reading a few more books with her and Mike in it!
Thank you to NetGalley , Karin and publishers Harper Collins for the chance to read this book.
