Great world building and really interesting plot! Really creative take on a rumpelstiltskin retelling. Love the cute side plot romance between the main characters.

Finally finished this after starting and stopping in February. It was sooooo good. There were a lot of descriptions of forests and castles and other scenes that bored me so much in the beginning. But I did guess where it was going near the end. Liked the twists and turns and the cliffhanger we ended on.
DNF @68%... this is the second book of Marissa Meyer's that I've DNF'd. Both of which were audiobooks. I may give this one a second chance some day, but in print. I just lost interest in the audiobook. shrug
I haven't read a Rumpelstiltskin retelling before so when I saw that Marissa Meyer was writing one I pre-ordered this as soon as it was available. Best decision ever
I read this book because I enjoy Meyer, but I am definitely no longer a member of the target audience.
Good things:
-All the little bits of culture scattered throughout.
-The feeling of community. I believed it when characters liked each other.
-Which fairy tale was chosen. It was one of my faves as a kid.
-The storytelling used as a vehicle.
Bad things:
-The pacing. I didn't realize there was a sequel planned when I started reading it. I felt cheated towards the end because the story within a story didn't have a satisfying ending.
I received a digital sample of this book in October from Netgalley and immediately fell in love with the characters. I began it as soon as I could get my hands on it and absolutely loved it!
This story s an intricately woven tapestry of love, loss, the courage to go on even when all seems lost, and the hope that things will get better.
This is the first book I have read by Marissa Meyer and fell in love with her writing style. I will definitely be reading more of her books!
Marissa Meyer did an incredible job creating this world and the characters within it.
