While I enjoyed the deep dive into Jenny's backstory in Ghostly Echoes, there was a lot of this book that was just kind of a hot mess. The last third had me staring at my Kindle going, “what just happened?” The action scenes were sadly vague and not nearly clear enough to follow properly. This book has a lot going for it – Jenny is a fantastic character and learning more about her and what happened in her past was absolutely worth the read, but the end was just...not good. Confusing at best, flat out impossible to follow at worst.

The stakes rose a lot in this book, and I'm not sure that really works for the world set up in these novels. I'll absolutely still read the next one, but I'm going into it not expecting a whole lot, which is sad. I really enjoyed the first two, but this one was a big step down.
