Adorable & Fun
I knew I'd love this book from the first page, if I'm being honest with myself. The art style brought back so many beautiful memories of the older books I read as a child, passed down from family members. It's a little rustic - adorable but not overly cartoonish. With such a wonderfully nostalgic feeling, there's no way I wouldn't like it.
However, the art and nostalgia aren't the only things I enjoyed. This is a cute story about a farm dog who has to help the clueless city folk who adopt him and move onto the farm. He's a clever pup and makes fast friends with the new family through a series of adorable antics.
I'm not sure there's a moral or lesson, but frankly I don't believe all children's books need to have blatant messages. The story is fun in and of itself, and that's plenty reason to encourage a child to read - or to read to them.
I adore this book and will likely end up purchasing a copy for my young cousin whose birthday is coming up soon. She loves dogs and I think she'd have room in her heart for George the Hero Hound! (I rented this on Kindle Unlimited to read for myself.)
