This book was challenged at the library I work at. The gentleman challenging it referred to it as being porn. In the way he talked about it - it is obvious that he did not read it but is just following someone else's marching orders on what to target in a public library collection.
This book is a memoir of Maia discovering who they are. It is an honest introspective book that the author wrote for teenagers who may be struggling with same issues Maia struggled with. It is a book that belongs in library collections. It is well written and illustrated.
Funny fact: I know of at least 3 people who have now read the book BECAUSE of the challenge.
