Galaxy in Flames

This is the third book in the Horus Hersey, which completes the required introductory trilogy before most people start to pick and choose what they find interesting. The conclusion was well executed and feels like a generally satisfactory ending even if you were to stop here. Of course, the central plot remains but the characters which we experienced these events through mostly wrap their stories.

Finished! It's a a real thrill ride, maybe my favorite of the Heresy series so far.

I have to say though, I'm a little disappointed. Horus' betrayal seemed to come out of nowhere in the last book, and it's even more confusing here. Why would so many Space Marines join him? How did they spread this message enough for people to join, but not so far that it didn't get discovered early?

I enjoyed this one more than the second book in the series. Maybe the plot is simpler, but I didn't feel it being as idiotic and naive. Pretty solid scifi for a book about big guys in huge armors.

Definitely the most blood-soaked of the first three in this series, and starting to head toward the grimdark-ness of its source material, but if this trilogy arc is a barb then I might be hooked.

Gonna have to pace myself though; binging this series is gonna get expensive

The groundwork for the war that would rage for millennia has been put down. Great book.

Mon année de lecture 2018 se poursuit sous le signe de l'univers Warhammer 40k avec ce troisième volume de la trilogie inaugurale de la saga “Horus Heresy”. C'est en effet dans cet opus que s'achève le commencement, si je puis me permettre cette pirouette. Les fondations sont cette fois posées, la saga va pouvoir partir dans toutes les directions, avec des romans plus ou moins indépendants suivant des arcs différents. Pour revenir à ce troisième volume, il est à la hauteur des deux premiers, toujours dans un style épique qui fonctionne bien avec des personnages forts qu'on apprécie de suivre, qu'ils soient sympathiques ou antipathiques. Cette saga est vraiment une très bonne surprise, je m'attendais clairement à des romans moins subtils et je suis heureux de m'être trompé. Par contre, je vais sans doute faire une petite pause dans mes lectures dans cet univers pour lire au moins un roman de la rentrée littéraire de janvier. Il faudrait tout de même que j'évite une overdose de Space Marines !
