The hurt/comfort was good in the beginning, and the writing was decent. I only felt compelled to finish because I wanted to know what happened. The conflict was all superficial, and it was pretty obvious everything was going to work out so it never felt like the stakes were very high.
O.M.G.!
I so loved this story and the characters! I've only read a small selection from this author and have discovered I need shares in a tissue company. I just get so immersed and lose myself in the story.
3.5 stars. I can always count on N.R. Walker for a solid M/M romance. This one starts out dramatically but then turns into a sweet, slow-burn romance between two gun-shy men: Aubrey, who has escaped an abusive relationship and Patrick, who is still mourning his dead lover. They're kind to and gentle with each other and once they start having sex they have LOTS of it. There's no ugly breakup scene or long stretches of the MCs being apart from each other. Even when Aubrey's past catches up to him the focus is on how he handles it emotionally and how Patrick supports him (he never actually confronts his abuser face to face). Plus there's a cat with good taste in people, fairy penguins (Google them, they're adorable), and stargazing.
