Fortuna Sworn

DNF at 25%. This book was not for me. I tried the audio and while the narrator was doing a great job, I did not like the writing style and couldn't connect with Fortuna.

The cliffhanger at the end left me GAGGED. So even though I thought halfway through I would NOT read book two - I see now that I HAVE to - because I have SO many questions I need answered

Nightmares, Faeries, Monsters, Wolves, and more. It was different from most fantasy I've read. I never knew what was going to happen. Some things were similar to ACOTAR but not at the same time. Its darker and tough subjects.

Fortuna Sworn, our like able main character, can't trust anyone, loves her brother, and struggles with right and wrong. The ending leaves you wanting more.

Ummm oopsies I DNFed.

I'm not a romance fan, but I do love the fae, so I decided to give this a try.
I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either.
I actually liked Fortuna and the King, but I think Laurie is my favorite character. I liked him enough to continue the series.
There isn't any world building, but I think that's understandable since it takes place mostly in the Unseelie Court.
I really liked the narrator.

Extremely fast-paced. A lot happened in just 300 pages, but I felt like it was a bit too hurried. The actions didn't feel as serious or important because it went so quickly.

Heerlijk duister, sensueel verhaal waarbij de auteur enerzijds leent uit de traditionele feeën folklore en er anderzijds haar volledig eigen originele draai aan geeft.

Dit boek had precies de donkere, dreigende sfeer waar ik van hou in sprookjes en feeënverhalen, waarbij die mooie wezens niet allemaal magie en licht zijn.
De opzet van het verhaal en zijn protagonist zijn enorm origineel en wekken mijn nieuwsgierigheid om dieper in de wereld te duiken. De schrijfstijl lag me ook helemaal en de manier waarop de auteur bepaalde moeilijke elementen toch vloeiend, begrijpelijk en bijna filmisch wist over te brengen is toch wel indrukwekkend.
Maar een deel van het verhaal was voor mij toch wat ontgoochelend, omdat het net een tikkeltje te veel deed denken aan een ander boek ([b:A Court of Thorns and Roses|16096824|A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1)|Sarah J. Maar over het algemeen sleepte dit boek mij helemaal mee en ik ben enorm benieuwd naar het vervolg, mede door die heerlijke twist op het einde!
