I was pleasantly surprised by this book in terms of character archetypes. Not the typical vampire and werewolf stuff. Some of it was still predictable though lol
While the writing was good I found the story slow. Also, the paranormal parts were hinted at and most of the book was quick to rap up in the last 50 pages or so and felt rushed. I think this just suffered from first novel but I don't think I'll continue on with this series anytime soon. I would consider reading a different series by the same author though.
Fun but pacing an issue. All of the supporting character motivations, plot twists, and are revealed at the end. Makes for a biy of confusing slog. But, a fun, light, frothy read which was just what I was in the mood for.
Argh, I hate books where the hero keeps secrets from the heroine (and the reader) “for her own good.” I don't like being in the dark until almost the very end of the book. However, Callihan is a talented author and skillfully creates a Gothic atmosphere and passion between hero and heroine. I am hooked enough to read the second book in the series to see if the plot is more to my liking.
A lot different than what I usually read, but I found this to be a lot of fun. Good for fans of paranormal romance.
