Cole was the sole caretaker for his pre teen brother Nathan after a tragic incident left them alone, grieving and totally lost. He was struggling and fighting to remain afloat and provide for his brother but some needs go well beyond the physical. At this difficult moment, Cole and Nathan received an unexpected lifeline - an invitation for Nathan to train and learn at the Knockout gym. It was a life-changing moment that connected Brooks, Lucas, Cole and Nathan in unexpected ways. For Cole and Nathan, it was even more - a much-needed breath of fresh air, an island of calm in the hostile sea of daily challenges they both navigated, an embrace of unconditional, caring love they both desperately needed. The story also has a strong non-binary presentation and interesting interpretation of transitioning and finding your true self, even if it doesn't conform to societal norms and expectations / Brooks is enby and Nathan is in the process of discovering who he really is /. The underlined message woven into the story is that everyone has the human right to be accepted and respected in the way they identify. But discovering who you really are is a lifelong journey of self-discovery.
