Eona: Poslední dračí oko

Can't articulate my thoughts at the moment, but this sequel was too much awesomeness and i was glued to every single page. There was so much in this book to dwell on, the flawed characterizations that i always seek, the games of ambitions and backstabbing, the mythology with unraveled secrets, all this mixed with tons of actions, a heroine to root for and an angsty good romance and a sly villain that makes sense that it's hard not to like or care about.

This was one of those rare books where the sequel is better than the original. Don't get me wrong I loved the first book, Eon, it had such a diverse world of characters and a refreshing originality, but Eona took it to the next level. After reading a highly predictable (yet still fun) first book, I was happy to see Eona pull a few over on me. The storyline was quicker to develop as well and made me want to speed read to find out what happened next. I feared that love would dominate the second book when Goodman hinted at a love triangle, but it blissfully stayed in the background. I do wish I knew what happened to a few characters we are reunited with in the last quarter of the book, but I understand they weren't vital to this story. I also wish there could have been more storyline with her mother, or else leave her out of it entirely. She seemed to be an edit away from being taken out of the writing with how little time she was mentioned. All together I enjoyed the read and wish I could read more from Goodman along the same genre as Eon and Eona.

What an amazing duology! Definitely one of the best YA novels I've read in a long while. A main character that is flawed and yet having followed her from humble beginnings you find yourself also justifying her questionable actions, just as she does. Eona was a wonderfully complex character who had me wondering right until the final pages what her final decisions would be and how that would affect her world and those around her. Speaking of worldbuilding - wow! Alison Goodman built an absolutely astounding world of dragons, pearls, royalty and magic that was totally immersive and mesmerizing. I definitely recommend this one if your tired of the same old tropes in YA, it is a refreshing step away from ‘love at first sight' stories and girls meeting boys with mysterious powers storylines, Eona has her own power and her journey through learning how that power should be used is a truly thought-provoking and exciting one. It's not black or white and there are often hard choices, difficult decisions and very real consequences for her actions. Highly recommended fantasy!

I really enjoyed this one. I can't remember enough about the first book to say whether I liked it better or not. I felt a little embarrassed by some of the scenes, but that's probably just my personality.
