I just finished this and the only thought in my mind is “what the fuck did I just read?!”
This was such a ride, much more so than any other Nyla K books I've read.
I'm not sure how I feel about this particular type of plot twist, and i definitely think a reread would help to sort out the confusion I have right now regarding a lot of the story. Maybe when i reread this I'll realise the story is actually incredibly clever, I don't know.
What I do know is that this did a great job of immersing me into this world, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Especially Luth and Ren's story, I love them so muchh
First 75% was 4 stars for me, then the book was ruined, with the last 25% being a 1 star read. The twist was a total cop-out, lazy, and didn't even make sense. And yes, author, I “get it” and I'm still very disappointed. If you're going to write a dark book with fucked up characters and twisted love, commit to it. Don't chicken out with a “twist” that makes it all sunshine and rainbows and instalove sap fest romance that's not in the least believable. It introduced a major plot hole that wasn't explained in the author's note at the end where she tried to cover other plot holes but missed the biggest one. I saw all the twists coming a mile away, including the big one, except that I dismissed it because there were too many reasons it didn't make sense, yet that's still what she went with, then tells the reader they shouldn't be disappointed.
