Very fast fun read.

This was a really interesting book. I never thought I would enjoy a book about zombies (or revenants if you want to be specific). Vincent and his “family” were by far the best parts of the book. Each of them had a unique personality that was fun to read.

Plum has such a unique way of writing that really intrigued me. I really enjoyed her prose and dialogue.

I really enjoyed this book, despite it being a tad predictable. The characters are all interesting and engaging to read about, the dialogue is snappy and reads well, and the story really moves along at a swift clip. I wasn't ever bored, and overall the book is a quick read. Looking forward to picking up the next in the series at some point, and would definitely recommend.

Decidi uma coisa nesse último ano: estou, definitivamente, deixando de lado a promessa de não ler mais séries. Aparentemente, o destino resolveu dar as cartas na minha lista de leitura. Encontrei em Morra por Mim mais uma série para acompanhar.
A premissa é bastante conhecida por nós: uma garota humana que se apaixona por um ser místico. Nesse caso, o ser místico é Vincent, um imortal que junto com outros de sua estirpe, salva a vida das pessoas e combate um clã de imortais do mal. Lembra um pouco a série da Alyson Nöel, mas as semelhanças param na imortalidade.
O ritmo da história flui com facilidade e a forma de narrar de Amy Plum é do tipo direta, que não tem necessidade de fazer floreios e rodeios para chegar ao ponto de interesse da história – o que me realmente me agrada muito. O começo é ao mesmo tempo um pouco devagar demais e rápido demais. Como assim? Bem, primeiro parece que demorou uma eternidade para que Vincent e Kate começassem a interagir (então quando você vê em que número de página está sua leitura, percebe que já passou da página 130), depois a quantidade e velocidade de informação que é descarregada em Kate é grande demais – mas pelo menos a personagem aguenta firme, por algum tempo.
Gostei bastante da relação entre Kate e Georgia, elas são diferentes, tem atitudes diferentes, mas se apoiam e se amam, apesar de ocasionais brigas. No entanto, Georgia aparenta ser um pouco imatura, mesmo sendo a irmã mais velha, algumas de suas ações comprovaram isso.
Kate me pareceu uma personagem bastante real, que poderia ser comparada à qualquer garota que sofreu uma perda como a sua. Outra coisa que me ocorreu enquanto lia é que atualmente os escritores gostam de descrever suas personagens principais como “almas antigas”, essa é a terceira ou quarta vez que li algo parecido no último ano.
Quanto aos integrantes do grupo dos revenant, não consigo decidir qual deles me cativou mais. Mas Charles, com certeza não está no topo da lista, o francês é frio demais para mim. Já Vince e Jules estão na dianteira. Vincent é quase perfeito e Jules é mais do que divertido. Para mim fica muito claro que Jules também sente alguma coisa por Kate, mas nós sabemos à quem pertence o coração da moça. Ambrose e Charlotte são memoráveis – e espero que exista um relacionamento entre eles em algum momento. Jean-Baptiste e Gaspard levaram algum tempo para me conquistar, mas de alguma forma, conseguiram antes do final da narrativa.
Por ser o primeiro volume da trilogia – que recentemente ganhou um quarto livro com o ponto de vista de Jules dos acontecimentos dos dois primeiros livros –, muitas perguntas foram deixadas sem resposta, muitas pontas foram soltas e muitos destinos estão sem um final que nos agrade realmente. E é claro que isso é intencional – e preciso ler o próximo livro logo.
E para te deixar com uma das perguntas que estão martelando na minha mente, pense nisso: Por que o avô de Kate reagiu daquela maneira ao ouvir a neta comentar sobre os numa? Será que ele esconde alguma coisa?
Existe uma razão para eu ler essa história em dois dias: Morra por Mim é uma leitura empolgante, que prende o leitor do começo ao fim – não apenas por querer descobrir se o casal ficará junto, mas também para aprender mais sobre o universo dos revenant e numa. Também é preciso dizer que a capa é linda e o trabalho feito no início de cada capítulo combina com o tom da história. Não deixe de ler e se apaixonar por mais uma série!

I read this a few of years ago, when I was still insisting in making YA my primary reading source. I remember not being able to turn a couple of pages without an eye-roll. There was nothing remarkable about the characters, they were just your standard, run of the mill, lackluster characters, the chemistry between the lovebirds was non-existent, their attraction was forced and the plot was so poorly constructed that it was obvious it wasn't there to tell a story, but as a setting for the soap. Another reviewer said that it tried too hard to copy Twilight and I can't say I see it otherwise.

Audio Book

Hmm... Not sure what to make of this book. I finished it last night and tried to think about it all day. I had this read on my TBR list for a while and just recently received the ARC for the second book which is coming out on May 8th. Wanting to read book two before it came out I bumped this one up on my list.

First of all, this cover is RIDUNKULOUS. I love it. I realized I don't speak much about the covers when I write my reviews and am not sure why because it is what first lures me into reading the description of the book. Once I read the description I decide whether I want to really read this book, great cover or not. If I LOVE the book I buy it later on to place on my bookshelf. At any rate, I loved the cover and I really did like the description of the book.

What I liked:

•I really liked the idea of the Revenant and their purpose. I still don't know how to explain what they are. They are not zombies or vampires but definitely are the undead and this is definitely unique in my world.

•Kate and Vincent are the main characters but I have to admit that I found the rest of the Revenants extremely interesting and wanted to learn more about them. I loved the flirtatious Jules and Ambrose was really awesome. The author did a great job writing Ambrose. He felt so familiar and genuine. I really liked Charlotte too. I could relate to her character and feel her anguish in regards to both Charles and Ambrose.

•The unusual connection Kate and Vincent felt towards the end of the book.

What I didn't like:

•How the story was executed. I just think that it needed more meat, more umph. Kate is the heroine, the lead, and I didn't get what makes her special. She just felt incomplete.

•The fact that I still don't know how to explain what a Revenant is. The author has the Revenants explain it to Kate (and us, the readers) and each of them thinks of it in a different way which seems to be contradictory to how the other thinks of it. “We are not zombies.” “We are zombies.” “We wake up.” “We do not wake up. We reanimate.” OMG peeps! Which one is it really?

•It irked me a bit that Vincent kept secrets after Kate found out about the Revenants. It took a very long time to get those secrets out. It was as if the author was trying to prolong it for the sake of prolonging due to no meat. Kate knew about the Revenants so why not just tell her everything when she wanted to know it? The excuse that they didn't want her to go into shock due to information overload was overdone a bit much. She had already proven that she could handle the information given to her.

•The attraction Vincent felt for Kate; Why? He never really explains why he likes her so much or why he was instantly attracted to her or what about her caught his attention after decades of not being with someone. I guess Vincent was a bit incomplete too in this category but ONLY in this category.

•There is a huge battle at the end and usually there are minor events that take place that are foreboding and although it didn't go down this way there were definitely missed opportunities for it.


I will read the next book because I do think this book had good intentions and I am hoping that the second book will be better. Book two I will read, however, I did appreciate listening to the right French pronunciation of some of the words included in this one.

On to the second one!
