I don't know... I'm just not feeling this series. The concept is interesting and I love reading about how Tom grows, learns, and does new things, but I really dislike the Spook and how women are depicted in the story. I feel like Alice isn't given a fair shot. Also the whole ideology of the world being black and white is not very appealing.
I think I'll try one more.
Well, It is starting to get interesting, this feels like Harry Potter only the horror version, unlike Mr. Potter, who had so many many friends, Thomas doesn't have that much, only his mother and the Spook, but what a mother!!!!
Good things about the book, expansion of the Delaney world, earlier ghosts, witches and boggarts, now we have the Bane, a tougher, more malevolent entity, more glimpses of Mr. Gregory's bygone days and yesteryears, origin of Mister and Missus Ward and of course, we see how Thomas begins to grow!!!!

This series has been my current go-to series to read aloud to my son, Luke (almost 9 years old). They are good creepy fun. Our hero is apprenticed to a Spook, a man who rids the county of creatures of the dark be they boggarts, witches, or any other ghoul from the Dark. It's dangerous work and full of suspense. The characters themselves are wondeful. They are so easy to picture in the mind's eye. We'll be starting the third book in the series within days.
