Number one best-selling author C. L. Swinney has been a cop for almost fourteen years, ranging in assignments from patrol to undercover narcotics. The things cops do and see are certainly not for the faint of heart. We develop a sick sense of humor, but only to rationalize the fact that we risk our lives for strangers (some who wish us dead), enforce the law, and pray we go home to our loved ones at the end of our shift. Some wearing a badge drink or use drugs to cope, even go as far as taking their own lives. Others are heavy-handed or get caught stealing. C.L. Swinney chooses to write to deal with the stress of the profession. The poetry found within this collection is rough, sometimes unstructured, and may not suit all readers. However, it soundly portrays what it means to wear a badge and to serve and protect. As with all of his other work, C. L. Swinney will donate the overwhelming majority of the proceeds from this collection to the families of fallen officers and military members.
