It was a lot of atmosphere/town building. The last 30% was the best. I would say it was more of a mystery than a thriller.
I think I will continue with the series, At least one more book in hopes it improves or I like it more. I wasn't feeling any chemistry between any of the characters.
This series is fantastic. This first book had me hooked from the first chapter. I sped through the current books out. The atmosphere is gritty and intense, perfectly capturing the severity of their new lifestyle even if some of the people in their little town don't understand.
I love all the characters, the setting, just.... everything.
A new favorite!
This was a fun thriller. I love the central idea (a city in the wilderness where people can disappear to avoid or escape from negative experiences in their life), and Casey is a strong, likable protagonist (which is pretty much par for the course for one of Armstrong's novels). In comparison to Armstrong's other work it's definitely more like Nadia Stafford than the Otherworld material, while still managing to have its own strong sense of identity.
