Well, it has some cool visuals...?
This one dragged a lot, since it was packed with dense exposition about Edward Spellman (Sabrina's father). It was interesting to learn his backstory, but I felt it was a bit too drawn out for a comic episode and should have been several panels or a few pages shorter. But maybe part of that is a non-issue, because I'm so not a fan of the stuff happening with Harvey here.
??Highlights of this issue:- Lord Cerbere (Cerberus), a demon with three canine heads - Chihuahua, wolf, and St. Bernard - shaggy sheep dog arms, humanoid hands, and the bottom half (including legs) of a chicken, wearing??three unique crowns and a flowing red cape.- Hilda and Zelda putting their rotten, little brother in his place.- A dark feast featuring a naked, bound human with an apple in her mouth instead of a pig. Because these witches are evil cannibals, of course. (Click the spoiler to see this image if you want to know. Fair warning, it's NSFW with BDSM type aesthetic. That's something I like, but it certainly may be a downside for some viewers.)??
Pitfalls of this issue:
- The possession plot which is ravaging its way through the Kinkle and Spellman families. I'm just not interested in it. At all.
- Weirdly sexual connotations with Church of Night priests going around in just boxers and open robes, exposing themselves around all the children including one altar boy who gets physically abused. Given it's altarboys/girls and priests and everything is a parody of the Catholic church, I'm not convinced those connotations aren't intentional.
- The drawn-out exposition which really should have been much less dense.
***??
Overall, I think this issue is just meh. I'm not entirely sure this series is for me after all; I greatly prefer the Netflix adaptation. Or the first season, at least - I have yet to view the second so for all I know maybe it's more like the comics (I hope not).
