Chapterhouse: Dune

The biggest problem with Chapterhouse: Dune is that we never get the story Frank Herbert wanted told to conclude it. Nevertheless, the book ends in such a way that it is still satisfying.

Murbella really comes into her own here, the fascinating mixture of Bene Gesserit and Honored Matre. Dar is again a powerful force. The building menace of the threat that drove the Honored Matres back from the Scattering is intriguingly written. I would have loved to know how Frank Herbert wanted to end this conflict (not the hack attempts from his son and KJ Anderson), but am content with my own vision of how it ended, based on what Frank wrote. All in all, a good ending to the series.

I loved this last book in the original serious. Ripping tale and left me hankering for more, but sadly not to be.

I am an unapologetic fan of the serious. I discovered them as a 16-year-old back in 1976 and periodically re-read them.

I felt a lot better about the pacing of this book compared to Heretics. I also think the ending was handled better, and the plans within plans felt more solid and follow-able than in Heretics. Although Herbert planned for a seventh and final book, I think this ending of several important characters and ideas going out in their own Scattering is very poignant, and it works. This also may be the fastest I read a Dune novel.

The dune series has quickly become my favorite series of all time and I am devastated that it had to end without the final planned entry into this second trilogy. That said it is still absolutely worth the read. The expansion upon the original cast of characters and universe continually astounds me and makes reading each book a delight

No puedo decir que es perfecto, pero me ha encantado la casi culminación de lo que Frank Herbert ha creado.

Como antes he mencionado, la esencia filosófica/religiosa que manejan los libros es exquisita, frases tan fuertes y de mucho peso. La trama no se me hizo difícil ni pesada, las páginas fluyeron fácilmente.

Creo que el único punto débil de este y de los anteriores es no tener cierta claridad en algunos aspectos que simplemente aparecen sin tener claridad sobre qué es, pero no es algo que te haga perder el hilo de la historia.

Me pongo más sentimental sal saber que es el último escrito por Frank y deja demasiada alta la vara para lo que su hijo hizo, veremos...

If you like the Bene Gesserit, read this book. It's a nice one to end the Dune series. May be slower at the beginning but I really enjoyed the detailed insights into the Bene Gesserit.

Ce dernier tome (de la main de F. Herbert) fut peut-être le plus sensé de tous. Cette impression me vient de la continuité avec les personnages du tome précédent (oui, même si le ghola Idaho nous suit depuis le début). Je termine ce livre en ayant pris goût à l'intrigue même si tout cela demeure un peu wtf. J'ai été plus émue par l'hommage rendu à sa femme puis à l'auteur lui-même qu'à la lutte du Bene Gesserit pour sa survie.
Clairement, je n'ai pas accroché sur les nombreuses disgressions religieuses et métaphysiques, il doit me manquer une affinité à ce niveau.

On en apprend toujours plus sur l'univers de Dune mais on reste également avec plein de nouvelles questions. Je vais d'ailleurs m'empresser d'aller chercher les réponses dans les deux tomes suivants.

Comme souvent avec Frank Herbert et son cycle de Dune, le début du roman est un peu compliqué à lire et peut sembler ennuyant. Les pensées et les machinations des Bene Gesserit sont obscures, parfois à la limite de la caricature. Tout s'éclaire pourtant à la fin, et cela me laisse une très bonne impression de ce roman et du cycle original de Frank Hebert. Je vais maintenant m'attaquer à la lecture ou relecture des deux « séquelles » écrites par son fils.
