Original: We find the same elements that made this series interesting to read from the beginning. Even if it holds a major surprise, the ending is a little too easy to foresee this time. However, we still enjoy devouring the book and moving on straight away.

Relecture : on découvre encore une nouvelle facette des opérations militaires, ce qui amène un peu de fraicheur dans la série.
Rereading: we discover yet another new facet of military operations, which brings a little freshness to the series.
Like my first long trip in a powered wheelchair
Again, the author has continued to focus almost solely on characters and story. Yes, a few new gadgets such as the fancy dropships, but we focus all the way through on how the earth has actually improved itself with the local militias, to the desperation of the newly trained infantry as they ready themselves for a suicidal return to Mars.
I don't believe the author is into politics in his work, but while the British tradition has followed through from Churchill, I can easily see a certain current US President flying off on Space Force One.
One criticism I missed before is that the author needs to read up on is the theoretical work by Miguelle Alcubiere... With the best will in the world, shifting 30 light years or more in 27 mins or even 12 hours is very unlikely. Not is there any need for ‘chutes' or launchers. You simply need to pile on the G and when you get to relatively and gravitionally flat space, engage the drive field. Again you can drop out when you are.ready.
That being said, the technology supports the story, but why not use a different name?
Never having been in the military myself, I'm not sure why I love this series so much.
But I do.
The characters are fun and seem well fleshed out to me. The military and SF seem well integrated and the situations are interesting. There is a ton of fast-paced action which is well described throughout. This is book 4 in the series, so if you've read this deep, you know what you're getting into. This book is more of the same. It's not overly derivative. It's the same characters you know and enjoy. The Lankies appear briefly, but the main opponent is different in this one.
All in all, this is good, fun reading.
Executive Summary: Once again Mr. Kloos took the story in an entirely different direction than I expected, but this turned out to be an excellent choice for my December road trip home.Audiobook: Another excellent job by Luke Daniels. If he keeps this up, I'll run out of nice things to say. This is a series that works well in audio.Full ReviewAbout this time last year, I didn't know anything about this series. It's quickly become one of my favorites. I did find the start a bit of a letdown of sorts because it seemed to completely neglect the things I was expecting it to be about. It turns out there was a good reason for that. I was completely wrong about the direction this book would take. I do hope he comes back to address some of these details later, but unless I'm completely wrong again, that won't likely be in the next volume. Things really continue to ramp up with this book, although I think my expectations put it a little behind [b:Angles of Attack 24358527 Angles of Attack (Frontlines, #3) Marko Kloos https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1432362775s/24358527.jpg 41876809] in terms of ranking the books. It's easily the second best, as Mr. Kloos's writing seems to improve with each book.I really love the characters, and the level of technology. Even though it's Science Fiction, I feel like some of the stuff here is very relevant and at times this book feels like it could happen in the not too distance future. Well, maybe minus the ridiculously large alien race that wants to destroy us.While not a very upbeat story, I still found it fun. It's a quick read with lots of action a lot of room to explore things beyond military battles. I'm very eager to read [b:Fields of Fire 30243858 Fields of Fire (Frontlines, #5) Marko Kloos https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1480850507s/30243858.jpg 50708771] next month.
Like the other books in the series, this one is similar in feel, yet puts our hero in a completely new situation. I like this series more with each book.
