A very short story from Ernest Hemingway, available free online in various places. One here thanks to Ilse: Cat in the Rain
This is held up an an example of Hemingway's theory of omission, where the writer says little, and more is said between the lines.
Literally a two minute read - an inattentive and disinterested husband, a wife wanting more emotionally that her husband offers - and a cat.
