I wanted a guilty pleasure vampire read with a hint of romance to settle into and just enjoy. Instead what I got was a novel littered with info-dumps, possessive characters and creepiness, and not the good sort of creepy. I don't know how to write about the issues without spoilers so this review will have them!

“Touch the Dark”. I'll pass, thank you. This was awful, and it really seems like just an excuse for a PNR. The following is a spoiler of the first 10% of the book.
I quit reading after the protagonist kept rambling on for 30min about how betrayed she felt because her 6 months roommate didn't mention he was a vampire, and that by killing 5 vampires that were trying to kill her, he just proved himself to be a psycho, a hot caramel skinned psycho who probably saved her life just to kill her himself. This book is an excellent start to a series by Karen Chance. I like Cassandra Palmer and the different antics she gets up to as she tries to navigate the various groups that are trying to control her and her powers. I look forward to reading more of the series.

I enjoyed this first book of the Cassandra Palmer series. I like the mix of characters and the way Cassie learned that things were not as she thought. I look forward to reading the next book, Claimed by Shadow.
I may have to give this book another chance at a later date I read it after a book that I thought was one of the best fantasy novels I have read (which is saying something) and this book was a major downer. I like the premise and the world building. The first few chapters had me. But then when she just walked out of the ultra vampire guarded home in Nevada to ‘talk' with the guy that might know something about her parents. Okay. These godlike vamps didn't notice she was missing. It just made me think ‘whatever' and I could not get over it. The rest of the book felt deflated. So maybe after I read something else equally horrible I will try again and see if my opinion changes.
