Is this the best romance you will read? No. Is this a scathing satire ripping apart the whole genre? No. Will this be a fun read? Yes.
This was so fun to read. Its not a deep or inspiring romance novel. It’s for people who love to watch and make fun of hallmark films. Cheesy romances are my guilty pleasure, from the bad acting, over the top plots, to the questionable choices. This book is all of that in book form.
The choices are funny and some choices I just wanted to see where they went, and it was worth it. I laughed, snickered, and just enjoyed myself while reading.
My Favorite quote: “Without you, I am like a piece of generic Scotch tape and two pieces of literally anything: Barely holding it together.”
Alright, so this book wasn't for me. It is super sarcastic, satirical, and is a parody of Christmas Movies – which in the way it is done could be funny to some, it just wasn't to me. In the beginning I might have internally chuckled, liking how she is thinking about working at Business and wanting that promotion at Business – I see what we are doing here. It just didn't continue to be funny. Some things made me cringe – then again, Christmas movies make me cringe soooo perhaps this is saying something about me more than the book.
There are some great options in the book and choosing your ending trope is funny – that I smiled at again. So many tropes and the way some of these endings are done does shed that light on how easily we just accept things in romance movies. Then again, sometimes cheesy Christmas movies with easy endings are just what you are looking for.
So, if you dislike Christmas romance movies or are ready to laugh at an over-the-top romance story I think you'll like this book. If you love these types of movies or aren't a fan of heavy-handed satire, then perhaps you should skip this one.
