3.5 stars. On the one hand, I give Lisa Henry and J.A. Rock credit for not turning this into [b:Mark Cooper versus America 37791393 Mark Cooper versus America (Prescott College, #1) Lisa Henry https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1514841450l/37791393.SY75.jpg 27682953] Redux. Unlike that raunchy, rollicking first tale set at Prescott College, Brandon Mills versus the V-Card is a much sweeter, somber portrayal of a young man starting to move beyond a traumatic experience in his past. On the other hand, so much page time is given to the one-of-a-kind Mark Cooper (what an attention hog), his true love Deacon, and the bathroom-lock-challenged Blake that Brandon and Alex do get a bit overshadowed. The book is still funny, sad, and engaging as hell, but I wish I knew more about Alex than 1) is half Hawaiian and 2) likes dinosaurs. He seems like the perfect guy, patiently (well after their first meeting) letting Brandon set the pace as he come to terms with his sexual feelings, but I'd be hard pressed to describe his own character arc. Still, there are many lovely moments and their final scene together is an age-appropriate and perfect HFN. The book's title is extremely misleading; it makes it sound like the story centers around a horny American Pie or Porky's character desperately trying to lose his virginity, and Brandon is the very opposite of that. Maybe it's supposed to be ironic? If so, I think that was a bad decision because it scared me away from the series for years. The end of my copy of this book included a preview of a third book in the series between a rebellious dean's son and a townie security guard that apparently never happened. That's too bad because I really enjoyed the cast of characters that Henry and Rock created. Maybe someday they'll get the urge to revisit the campus.
