In my opinion the “Bloodlines series” surpassed it's predecessor (Vampire Academy) which was very hard to do. Both series are great but all of the Bloodlines books captivated me and are a must read if you are fans of paranormal and mystery with a splash of romance.

I find this book to be very predictable. I figured out two of the three big secrets early on. As a result, I did not enjoy this book as much as I was expecting to. I really loved these characters in Vampire Academy and was expecting to love this series just as much. I'm definitely going to continue but I'm disappointed in how this series has started so far.

First of all I was not much interested in reading this book, because it's a spin off book and doesn't feature Rose ‘that' much. But later, while I was browsing through wikipedia, one sentence among it caught my attention - I'm not gonna write it here, so don't worry. Even though it spoiled the suspense and thrill in the series, I started the book soon. And guess what? It was totally amazing! I was glued to the book in a tremendous level that, I didn't want to go away from the book even to take a bath!
This book takes vampire fantasy, adventure, romance and friendship to a next level - which I recommend you should experience(By reading). Now that I finished the book, I've got to say - if you ‘like' Vampire Academy series, then you're gonna ‘love' Bloodlines series. So if you haven't started the book, start today itself - because it's worth your time.

Would've probably enjoyed this more if I'd read the Vampire Academy series first. As it is, though, pretty good.
Fun and quick, I enjoyed this book although it is a change of pace from Vampire Academy. Where Rose is fiery and driving, Sydney is cool and logical, which changes the pace of the book (note that this changed for me with book 2, where Sydney comes into her own and Mead seems to really find Sydney's voice). As always, Mead doesn't shy away from tougher subjects and for Sydney that is addressing her body image issues. While it's a smaller aspect of the series, I appreciated that Mead put it in the story in a realistic way. I enjoyed the look at a new section of the VA world.
I stood in line forever at BEA for this one, and I am glad I did. I loved Sydney when we first met her in Moscow. I thought she was the only female character to rival Rose in the entire VA world. Here, though, Sydney is kind of lame. She is prudish, socially awkward, and I really wanted her to be a bit cooler. By the end of the book, Sydney had improved. I do hope Mead gives her a leading man worth his weight in gold, because I just feel as though Adrian is Rose's sloppy seconds. Trey looks promising. My other gripe about the book is that nothing but set up happens for the first two hundred pages. Yawn. Once it does get going, it is great. I was up until two last night finishing it.
Ooops, one last gripe. I think this series would really benefit from breaking out on its own-no more walk-on's from VA characters. Let Sydney and the crew take the ball they have been given and run with it. I love the new characters, especially the Professor. I AM loving that Eddie gets to have a life in this one, Adrian I could live without. I like Jill very much. She's a tough little cookie.
I didn't expect Sydney to have such a low opinion of herself, and I am glad to see that evolving into a more healthy direction...
A note about the cover, I know I have an ARC, and I hope the cover art is not final. The model's hair looks dirty and green. The tattoo is just as I imagined it, but who is the guy? It that supposed to be Adrian? I think that VA has always had great covers, and that this one is a little icky.
