Many years ago, a very special child was born in Näs, in beautiful Sweden. She spent her childhood nn a farm, close to Nature and its marvelous creations. And then, she understood what ‘' magic'' means. How? A different world was born through the pages of a book. A world beautiful beyond any imagination and the girl wanted to devour each and every book she could find. Magical and amazing and wild.

And the girl grew up to become a very special young woman. She defied conventions and followed her own heart. She cut her hair and gave birth to a boy when she was 19. She created a beautiful family and loved playing with her children and coming up with brilliant stories. When her daughter asked her for a story about a girl named Pippi Longstocking, a miracle was born. Pippi was free and rebellious, independent, and unbelievably strong. She knew how to put insufferable adults in their proper place and to speak up against injustice and violence. Pippi was a character that had to become a book. And so it came to pass and the red-haired girl became a heroine for many, many children of our world.

Pippi was not without company. Karlsson, Lisa, Ronja, Karl and Jonatan, Bosse and many more came along to keep good company and become guides to the little ones and the grown-ups who refuse to ‘'grow up''. Because, why would we?

The girl from Näs became one of the most important writers in Children's Literature, she was honoured with many awards and a planet was named in her honour. She was a writer who taught children to follow their dreams and stay true to themselves.

Her name was Astrid Lindgren.
