Pretty good full cast audiobook for Alien fans. Doesn't bring a lot to the table as far as plot but the cast brings it to life.
The book is set between the first two films and this was the Audible dramatisation of it. These Dirk Maggs audio-dramas in the Alien universe are a great addition and I'd 100% recommend them to any fans of the franchise. Audible has handily turned them episodic so you can fit little 30 mins bites into your day between meetings, on lunch breaks or commuting.
The voice acting is exceptional (they found someone who sounds remarkably like Sigourney Weaver in Laurel Lefkow) and the soundscapes and music are similarly brilliant. Rutger Hauer as Ash was excellent and really made it feel so much like the film; it'll be a while before I can get his enunciation of “Science Officer Ash reporting...” out of my head.
An enjoyable read, but suffers the same thing every prequel does. Lack of stakes. The story wasn't aided by Ripley, I would have preferred leaving her out so that I didn't know how it ended.
Story wise, great. kept me interested the entire time.
Fans of the original Alien movie will enjoy this book. It appears to take place after the first film. If you don't think too hard about how that impacts the timeline or the events of Aliens (my favorite in the movie series), it's fairly easy to get lost in the narrative. I listened to the Audible Originals production of the story so I can't say how it might compare to the original book, assuming there was one. Since Audible does it's productions of this kind with a full cast of voice actors, it also alters the story in such a way that all exposition is removed from the experience. This makes it more akin to the old style radio plays of the 1930-40's. All things considered, a good story and a fun way to experience it.
An Audible production. Performance was fabulous, and story is solid. Just that there's a lot of “Be careful” and Ripley seems way nicer than how I remember her from the movies.
I never thought I'd dislike an AI so much! This was such a fun, captivating and thrilling story.
