A Walk in the Woods

How hard could it be
have a stroll, eat some noodles
bicker over cakes.

It was easy reading up until the mid way point when Bryson and Katz took a planned break and parted a ways and Bryson was doing some short solo hikes, this made the pacing rocky and made me lose my momentum so I ended up putting the book down and reading short bits hear and there as I completed other books. Then 2022 started and The Reading Glasses challenge had a task to read a book that's been adapted and I remembered I still had this book to complete so I picked it back up and now I've finished. I love a travel memoir, I love reading about people challenging themselves to do things that take them out of their comfort zone especially if it involves pushing themselves physically and mentally and with or against nature and the environment. A Walk in the Woods was a lot of that as well as a History of the Appalachian trail and the history of the North American wilderness detailing how it used to be how its become which I found mostly interesting and at other times I was annoyed because I felt like it was taking me away from Byson's and Katz story of a hiking the Appalachia. There was also a lot of humor to keep things light and interesting.
