Not quite as good as Kite Runner, but that may be because they are of a similar nature and I read Kite Runner first. The old Atlas Shrugged and Fountainhead effect.

At any rate, certainy worth reading.

What is there to say about this book. Just beautiful. Heartwrenching.

Until the last 2 cd's (out of 11) I would've given this book 3 stars. It is a difficult book to listen to/read...especially as a woman. That said, it's a beautiful story and pretty well written.

A beautifully written book that's both moving and bittersweet. Hosseini shows the reader how the Soviet occupation, the tribal conflicts and the Taliban rule of Afghanistan affected the people on a daily level through the lives of Mariam and Laila.

Mariam and Laila suffer tormented childhoods in a world where women are not respected. Despite this, they grow up to become friends, caring for each other, saving each other from lonely lives. I liked this book as well as Kite Runner, perhaps a little better.
