written with the simplicity you expect in books written for children it feels like an adult fairy tale
I imagine this is what Jackie from yellowjackets went through when she decided to sleep outside before snow fell....
Anyway, this is definitely a book where the reader can project whatever interpretation of the book they had without the novel outright saying “correct” or “incorrect”. Idk if I'm that type of reader though!
I appreciate the story's unconscious way of writing.
‘A Shining' is a short, 73-page book about a seemingly depressed and anxious man, who drives and walks deep into a forest until he becomes lost. As readers, we follow along his actions and thoughts in the form of an uneasy and curious soliloquy.
This book is an easy read and I recommend it as a palette cleanser.
The atmospheric prose with an overall symbolism of death and abandonment made this book feel like a long fever dream. This is further accentuated by Fosse's repetitive and picturesque description of the whole scenario but I didn't find it to be much enthralling or mesmerizing. Maybe I am overlooking something but this book didn't perform well in my humble opinion.
so, 3 stars/5
p.s-I am looking forward to reading the septology series
