easily the WORST 17 books of my life & I read the whole freaking series bc it was free on kindle
Find some repetitions even I, a non-native English speaker, could avoid. I may understand it in a 1rst edition as a lack of work edition as this book was first autopublished but I did read a 3rd or even later edition.
We do feel the potential, and I will go on with the serie, but I agree with comments about poorly developped characters and too many perfectly happy people. I'll see if it will become better in the next one.
I still have a really good time to read it, I am ambivalent, that's why a 3.5 stars only.
August 2022 Hoopla Bonus Borrows recomendation
Ooof I wasn't sure what all the 1 star reviews were about, but at the 3.5 hour mark of the audiobook it's time to call it quits.
The character is a Mary Sue. Has the most intense powers anyone has encoutered. Adopted by a king. Saved the life of the prized knight. Princess is immediately smitten with him. A lot of instantaneous “wow, look at all these amazing things happening to me!”
Also saw another review mention how this book is made up of moments from other classic fantasy authors. There is definitely some Sword in the Stone, and wannabe Tolkein.
It's very much the “I want to be the star of the series, so I will write this character with immense luck to experience EVERYTHING.”
Returning and leaving in the DNF pile.
Too simplistic of a writing style for me and the characters were poorly developed. The introduction to the kingdom alone made me cringe. Everyone was too perfectly happy. Don't write that things were perfect, put some challenges in there outside of a cranky neighboring nation, it's been done way too many times. And seriously, a sword in a stone? Cliché. I gave this two stars because the writer does have some talent, and I think with some work this novel could have turned out a lot better.
