I read this within the space of five hours, despite being busy at the time. I literally could not put it down. It's a fast-paced mystery. In the first chapter, criminologist Jerold Garrison, busy setting up his fresh office in New York, welcomes his first client–a young lady who asks him to find someone who would be willing to pose as her husband for a short period for a fee of five hundred dollars. Since he does not know anyone in the city, he cannot recommend anyone, so she hires him. Hardly has she left when a Mr. Wicks comes, offering him a job to investigate the death of a certain older gentleman for insurance purposes. From no work he goes to working two jobs at once, and the fun begins...or should I say the danger? The suspense continues right up to the very end of the story, with fresh discoveries at every turn.
I read the iBooks edition from Project Gutenburg. There were several places whe the line breaks were a bit funky, but since it was free I wasn't too upset...
